What are Racetams, Racetam Nootropics

Racetams are a type of nootropics that influence namely the acetylcholine and GABA receptors in the brain, causing improved cognition, better memory, a greater degree of focus, and after long-term use, better oxygenate the brain, improving the connections in the corpus callosum, the adjoining gap between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. This article will list and describe the four major types of racetams (the biggest types of long term nootropics), as well as give some insight and descriptions on a few of the lesser known racetams. Each racetam has the potential to greatly improve the functions of the brain, and therefore, with difficult, sustained learning, will increase neuroplasticity to immense degrees. Use them over the course of several weeks or months to reap their maximum benefits and you’ll be feeling like the smartest person in the room in no time!

Piracetam– The original nootropic, piracetam has a wide array of effects that aren’t seen for a time, but rather only when it is used dilligently over a long period of time. Best if supplemented with a good choline source such as Alpha GPC or citicholine, as well as if attack dosed (kind’ve like loading on creatine, use a high dose of piracetam when you first begin a regimen in order to get the nootropic in your system faster.) Standard dosage is 800mg dosed 3 times per day, and standard attack dose can range from 5grams to up to 12 grams. Give it a shot, and be patient with this amazing, nootropic compound. Of the racetam nootropics as a whole, Piracetam is the original, most well researched currently available.

More about Nootropics

Aniracetam– An anxiety reducing nootropic, best also if attack dosed and used in conjunction with a choline source. Aniracetam has even more profound effects on the acetylcholine receptor in the brain (meaning extra choline needs to be supplemented when using it) although its main mechanism of action that differs it from piracetam is its effects on the neurotransmitter GABA. While racetam nootropics tend to usually come with side effects, Aniracetam, over the long-term, has very little.

But what do Racetam Nootropics do?

Because it increases GABA levels in the brain, it equates to an immense decrease in anxiety, facilitates neuroplasticity to an even greater degree, is nearly 5 times stronger than piracetam, and oxygenates the brain and improves clarity of though to a much greater degree. Aniracetam is used on a regular basis by nootropic pros such as Tim Ferris and Dave Asperey, stacking it with Modafinil and Adrafanil to give an NZT-like effect and to ward off any possible jitters. Aniracetam is one of my favorite nootropics for the long-term, and I recommend anyone supplements it for a general boost in healthy brain function. Recommended dosage is 700 milligrams dosed once per day.

Oxiracetam– A more stimulant-like nootropic than the other two listed above, oxiracetam causes a significant increase in memory, a mild boost in overall clarity of thought, and an amazing burst of energy. Oxiracetam is also water-soluble, meaning it is easily digested and easily crosses the Blood Brain Barrier. Just mix into a glass of water or juice and chug. Oxiracetam in this sense is described as a “pure” nootropic, having no downregulation qualities, and acting on only the AMPA, NDMA, and acetylcholine receptors in the brain. For this reason, oxiracetam is great for long term use, and although it won’t improve mood or lower anxiety, the boost in cognitive functioning will be more than enough motivation to give this little miracle racetam a try. Average dosage is 600-3000 milligrams divided into three doses each day, usually used over the course of several months.

Pramiracetam– The strongest of the long-term racetams, Pramiracetam is up to 30 times stronger than Piracetam, and is very easily transported across the blood brain barrier. Pramiracetam reaches peak blood level concentration in 30 minutes, meaning its effects are felt quickly and effectively just moments after ingesting it. One of the major benefits of Pramiracetam is that, to a significant degree, it oxygenates and increased blood flow to the brain, resulting in healthier neurons, much improved clarity of thought, and finally, near limitless mental endurance. Fluid intelligence is improved, and learning and cognition are second to none alongside pramiracetams intense memory boosting effects. Pramiracetam is also prescribed for ADHD, dementia, and a host of other mental disorders throughout the developed European countries. Recommended dosage is 500 milligrams dosed 3 times daily.

Lesser Known (yet far more potent) Racetams: Some of the lesser known racetams fall into a category known as the ampakine nootropics, yet are still a nootropic compound of the racetam family, taking on the same mechanism of action as its counterparts. These are Phenylpiracetam, and Colouracetam, and both are equally much more potent than the previously listed racetams. Phenylpiracetam is up to 40 times stronger than piracetam, but contains an added Phenyl group, meaning it contains dopamine enhancing and stimulant qualities. For this reason, Phenylpiracetam is best if used sparingly (to minimize tolerance build up) and if used only on special occasions. Colouracetam on the other hand, is up to 1000 times stronger than piracetam, and also eliminates the need to supplement choline with the racetam, in that it has effects on the cholinergic system of the brain, meaning it reuptakes choline as it improves acetylcholine. Colouracetam in this sense is often thought of as the most potent racetam.

Final Thoughts

Whether your new to nootropics or have been an advanced practitioner for quite a time, consider giving the racetams a try. They are the most basic of nootropics, have cumulative effects, and are also some of the healthiest smart drugs for your brain. Most nootropics are also based off the molecular structure of the racetams, so be sure to check out these miraculous little compounds if you need a mental boost, have a big test, or are looking to increase mental cognition in the long run!
