What is Sulbutiamine and What Does it do?

How does Sulbutiamine affect Dopamine Recepors?

What is Sulbutiamine

Sulbutiamine is an “amine” type supplement, derived from phenylalanine and L-Tyrosine that is taken worldwide as a study aid and ADHD medication in order to boost learning and cognition. The nootropic has a mechanism of action similar to an amphetamine, is used overseas in Europe and Australia as a treatment for anxiety and depression, and significantly improved memory and focus by blocking the reuptake of acetylcholine in the brain. Tolerance does not develop in this nootropic drug, and over time it has a positive impact on the brain’s dopamine transporters.

What is this and what does it do?

It is a synthetic drug derived from several amino acids as well as a formulation of B vitamins, and helps to produce both acetylcholine and dopamine, making it a nootropic drug of its own kind and allowing it to have a very potent and powerful initial effect. It passes the blood brain barrier fairly easily, and is very fat soluble, meaning it is best if taken on a full stomach, and with fatty foods. It’s fat solubility was its original intent when synthesized in Japan in the late 1800’s, and accidentally turned out that it increased the speed and accuracy of mental processes! It was developed to supplement fatty acids in the lowfat diet of Japan (high in carbohydrates but lacking in fats and proteins) and now is used worldwide, and especially overseas, as a cognitive enhancer.

More about Sulbutiamine

Prescribed for a host of medical conditions both related and not to the brain, its most significant effect comes from its extreme dopaminergic properties, in that it influences dopamine in a much different manner than most other dopaminergic drugs, like Adderall or Modafinil. This drug reduces dopamine in the prefrontal cortex, causing the dopamine receptors “compensation center” of sorts to take effect, making more dopamine receptors available, and making the body more sensitive to dopamine releases, So your dopamine levels feel higher and rise because your normal amount of dopamine is more intense! This is great for studying, goal setting, productivity, and really anything related to dopamine. The brand names for sulbutiamine include Arcalion, which recommends a dosage of no more than 600 milligrams per day.

Side Effects

Sulbutiamine produces little to no side effects, and an overdose has never occurred with this drug, even at doses of 5 grams or

more. Some have reported a slight rash and mild nausea, but these are rare effects, and have only been observed in the elderly population taking extremely high doses. Sulbutiamine is a great alternative to many other detrimental dopaminergic drugs, is much more efficient, and has no crash or withdrawal effects.

My Review

The first time I had taken sulbutiamine, it was stacked atop sunifiram to study for an impending calculus test I had put off studying for so long, After extensive experience with both amphetamines and nootropics, not much was expected of this drug, however, a short 45 minutes after ingesting 1 gram of sulbutiamine, all I could say was WOW, this stuff works, and it works really well. It was just like taking a low dose of Adderall, and I was able to get more work done in just a short six hours than I had in an entire week off anything. If you plan on using this, be sure to eat well on it and only use it on occasion, because contrary to what research says, tolerance to this drug will build.
